Review:
Another wanna be '80s cop movie, like we don't have enough of those. Gere realized he couldn't play the gritty cop part and went on to be a doofus in Pretty Woman. On that subject, the take off in a manual car is the most difficult part if you can't drive a manual. In that movie Gere has difficulty maintaining speed. Then again maybe that isn't acting, maybe that's just Gere.
Do you really want to spend two hours watching Richard Gere? How can you take this guy seriously? I'll give him credit, at least this isn't The Mothman Prophecies, and he hasn't made a movie as hated as Garcia's biggest flop. Andy Garcia, the actor I always remember for The Godfather Part III. That's cause enough to dismiss everything he's ever done.
Gere's no officer and a gentlemen here, he's a bad cop in this revolutionary movie. The twist, he's regarded as the best cop in the precinct, a local hero. How you gonna do him wrong IA?
He does bad things and Andy Garcia's out to get him because otherwise Garcia would sit in his fictional office all day watching season 2 of Ballers. Of course Gere isn't going to take this lying down like some kind of American gigolo, though he does try to lie down with a few men's wives, including Garcia's wife. Gere plays games and Garcia just can't get him out of his head, and his primal fear is that Gere has been with his wife.
There's a showdown, stuff happens, and the good guys win... or do they? Unfortunately there was never a sequel so we don't know. That's unless you count Infernal Affairs (2002) which has no relation whatsoever other than a similar name and it's in the cop genre. But that doesn't count.
This movie sucks!
